Doctors for Drug Policy Reform Presents:
The Farm Bill, Hemp-derived Minor Cannabinoids, and Regulatory Mayhem
Cosponsored by the American Trade Association of Cannabis and Hemp (ATACH)
Join us for a rational discussion on regulating the minor intoxicating cannabinoids.
Some claim the U.S. 2018 Farm Bill inadvertently legalized the chemical conversion of hemp-derived cannabidiol (CBD) and other phytocannabinoids into intoxicating minor cannabinoids like delta-8 tetrahydrocannabinol (∆8-THC), leading to a booming industry without adequate regulatory oversight. This webinar features scientific, clinical, legal, and industry experts to discuss the pharmacological and regulatory aspects of this unintended debacle and offers potential (non-prohibitionist) solutions.
Speakers:
Adie Rae Wilson-Poe, PhD is a neuroscientist with expertise in the translational and clinical research of cannabis. Adie’s multi-faceted research ranges from synaptic physiology to clinical pharmacology and has been awarded the prestigious Pathway to Independence Award from the National Institute on Drug Abuse. Adie will discuss the underlying pharmacology of the minor cannabinoids
Matthew Zorn, JD is recognized as one of the leading authorities in the U.S. on issues relating to the federal Controlled Substance Act. Matt has successfully challenged the DEA on seminal cases involving both cannabis and psychedelics, pushing the DEA toward greater transparency and accountability. Matt will speak to the legal issues surrounding the minor cannabinoids, with a focus on the Farm Bill.
Chris Lindsey, JD has served as a cannabis attorney and lobbyist at both the state and federal levels seeking cannabis policy reform, as well as a former medical cannabis business owner. He has helped draft and pass both medical cannabis and adult use laws for the Marijuana Policy Project, and he currently serves as the Director of State Advocacy and Public Policy at the American Trade Association for Cannabis and Hemp (ATACH). Chris will discuss industry proposals to optimally regulate the hemp-derived minor cannabinoids.
Tanya Adams, DO is a board-certified physician in family medicine and lifestyle medicine. In her solo practice, Tanya incorporates lifestyle changes and cannabis to prevent, treat, and reverse chronic diseases. She is an advocate of proper labeling, third-party testing and dosing, and advocates for regulation to standardize these practices at the state and federal levels. Tanya will present D4DPR’s guidance for regulating hemp-derived minor cannabinoids and discuss how the cannabis and hemp industries' regulatory efforts align with it.
